British Beauty

I’m no beauty guru, but after years of watching British beauty mavens on YouTube there were a few things that I had my eye on, knowing I was heading across the pond. Here are a few thing I managed to smuggle home in my suitcase and have been loving the last few weeks:

Barry M Speedy Quick Dry nail varnish  – When it comes to nails I usually go neutral, and they almost always chip in three to four days. However, I have a nail varnish problem, so I had to give these a chance. I went for ‘Pit Stop’ to satisfy my midtone gray obsession and ‘Road Rage’, a perfect pastel green. I cannot speak highly enough about these. With two coats they last for at least a week with minimal chipping and I have found no need for an additional top coat. They dry down to a shiny satin finish and in less than a minute you’re ready to walk out the door. Color me impressed! Now I just need to get my hands on every color…

Collection Lasting Perfection concealer  – Another cult beauty favorite of the internet gurus, this peachy concealer is great for covering pesky under-eye circles. It’s lightweight coverage prevents cake-face, while evening out the subtle imperfections and for 4 quid, it was a steal for being comparable to some high end concealers.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation – This gel based foundation provides a light to medium coverage that easily evens skintone without leaving you feeling heavy. With one pump the gel base easily covers your whole face and drys to a dewy finish without feeling greasy or slick. If your skin is extremely oily this might not be the one for you, but it’s held up well on my combination skin, even through the summer heat.

Kiko Super Colour liquid eyeliner – I took a risk and departed from my beloved Kat Von D liquid liner, but so far this Kiko liner has proven it’s worth in staying power – even putting up a fight against my makeup remover. I went for the shade ‘dark brown’ as a subtle shift from stark black for fall and I’m loving using it with bronze and rose gold shadows. And again, for the price point, you can’t lose.

L’oreal Colour Riche lipstick in ‘British Red’ – Okay, so I took a liberty on this one, it’s not actually a product I picked up in the UK, but the name says it all. This satin finish lippie is the perfect shade of blue-toned red that can be rocked year round, but is especially great heading into fall.
